IIRO Calls for Urgent Assistance to Indonesia

Jeddah, October 27, SPA -- The International Islamic Relief Organization (IIRO), an affiliate of The Muslim World League (MWL) has called on humanitarian organizations belonging to Relief General Committee at World Islamic Council for Call and Relief to provide urgent relief assistance to the people affected by the earthquake that
recently struck Indonesian island of Sumatra.

In a statement issued here today, the Secretary General of the Organization and
Chairman of the Committee, Dr. Adnan bin Khalil Basha said that the aid will have
major impacts on alleviating the suffering of the affected people, noting that
according to reports from Disaster Management Agency and Ministry of Education in
Indonesia, and Children's Fund of United Nations, the earthquake completely
destroyed about 101,653 houses and 887 schools and seriously damaged 100,000
houses and 113 schools.
