Daum's earnings more than triple in Q3

SEOUL, Oct. 28 (Yonhap) -- Daum Communications Corp., South Korea's
second-largest Internet portal operator, said Wednesday its third-quarter earnings more than tripled from a year earlier on increased online sales and advertisement revenue.
Net profit stood at 13.6 billion won (US$11.5 million) in the July-September
period, compared with 4 billion won a year earlier, the company said in a
regulatory filing.
Sales rose 5 percent on-year to 61.4 billion won while operating profits was 8
percent higher at 13.5 billion, the company said.
Daum said the company's quarterly sales first broke the 60-billion mark on robust
revenues from its online shopping unit and advertisements, including banner sales
and sponsor links. It said a rise in visitor traffic to Daum's main website drove
the growth.
