JAMBI'S IRON ORE NOW EXPORTED TO INDIA
Jambi, Oct 28 (ANTARA) - India has become an export destination for the iron ore produced by a local investor, PT Putra Sarko Mining (PMS), which is developing the mining potentials of Jambi province`s Merangin district, a mining official said.
Irmansyah Herman, head of Jambi`s mines and energy office, said here Wednesday Merangin district which was previously less attractive to investors, was now attracting the attention of domestic as well as foreign investors.
"Merangin is one of districts in Jambi Province that is rich in mining potential such as gold, coal, marble and iron ore," Herman said.
Marble in particular was so far being traditionally processed by local residents into various handicrafts and furniture, without investors` participation, he said.
Iron ore was being mined only by PT PMS with its export destination to India, Herman said without mentioning its export value and the volume.
When asked why the iron ore was exported instead of being marketed in the country or sold to PT Krakatau Steel, Herman said, where the ore was sold was absolutely the company`s right to decide, because it relates to price and demand.
Prices and demand from India could be higher than in the country, so that the company prefers exporting its product instead of selling in the domestic market, the official said.
In addition to Merangin, Sarolangun district also had iron ore deposite that had not yet been touched by investors within and outside the country.
Jambi`s provincial government in cooperation with the districts which have the mining potential have endeavored to lure investors to
process the district`s potentials, he said.
"Every district in Jambi province has a different potential such as mines, oil and gas, coal, gold, titanium, iron ore, marble, including geothermal," Irmansyah Herman added. *** 2 ***
