INDONESIA CONDEMNS SUNDAY'S TERROR BOMBINGS IN BAGHDAD

Jakarta, Oct 29 (ANTARA) - Indonesia condemns the two simultaneous car bomb attacks in the center of the Iraqi capital of Baghdad over the weekend that killed more than 130 people and wounded more than 500 others, the foreign ministry said.

In a statement issued on Tharsday, the ministry said the Indonesian government deeply deplored the attacks at a time when the Iraqi government and people as well as the international community were striving to bring about national reconciliation toward the restoration of peace in Iraq.

In the Indonesian government`s view, the bomb attacks were a criminal and irrespsonsible act that could set back the improvements that had already been achieved in Iraq`s political situation and stability.

The Indonesian government and people would like to convey their condolences and sympathy to the families of the bombing victims, the statement said.

The Indenesian government would call on all parties in Iraq to exercise self-restraint to maintain Iraq`s unity and not to exacerbate the political and security situation in their country.

Indonesia was continuously and closely following political developments and conflicts in Iraq on account of the close bilateral relations that have existed between the two countries for a long time.

As Iraq`s stability in security and political terms were now at stake, the Indonesian government supports the effrots being made by the Iraqi government to achieve lasting domestic order and peace, the ministry said.

Bombs carried in a truck and minibus exploded at the same time at Iraq`s justice ministry and Baghdad provincial government offices on Sunday (Oct 25) in one of the most bloody attacks to happen in Iraq in the past two years.

Iraq`s al-Qaeda organization had claimed responsibility for the attack in an online statement. About 100 people also died in a twin bombing in Baghdad last August. ***4***
