NTB GOVT HAS OPPORTUNITY TO REVIEW NEWMONT'S WORK CONTRACT

Mataram, W. Nusa Tenggara, Oct 30 (ANTARA) - The West Nusa Tenggara (NTB) provincial administration and related institutions have an opportunity to review the contract of work (KK) of the mining company PT Newmont Nusa Tenggara, after the issuance of Law No. 4/2009 on minerals and coal mining.

Head of NTB provincial mines and energy affairs agency Heryadi Rachmat made the remarks here Friday when commenting on the wish of some circles in Sumbawa island in NTB, and commission-II of the Sumbawa Barat legislative assembly, for a revision of Newmont`s contract of work.

The wish came up on Wednesday (Oct 28) here at a meeting between a team of the commission-II of the Sumbawa Barat legislative assembly led by Budi Suryatna and the NTB provincial administration.

Rachmat said further that the mineral and coal mining law provides an opportunity to revise Newmont`s work contract after a comprehensive study had been conducted.

"Of course there is an opportunity to revise the contract under article 169 of law no.4/2009, but an inventory of the issue needs to be made," Rachmat said.

According to Heryadi, Article 169 and the supporting articles

gave an opportunity for a revise of the work contract of the mining company.

PT Newmont Nusa Tenggara is operating in full swing from March 2000 to 2020.
