Gov't issues guidelines on flu school closures

SEOUL, Oct. 29 (Yonhap) -- The government set guidelines Thursday on temporary
school closures due to Influenza A, which is quickly spreading nationwide.

Since the first death from H1N1 virus was reported locally in mid-August, 33
South Koreans have died from the infection, while 311 secondary schools
nationwide have closed as of Thursday afternoon to control the outbreak.
The Ministry of Education, Science and Technology said it has prepared
guidelines, to become effective from Saturday, for school chiefs to use when
deciding whether to suspend classes.
The guidelines instruct schools, especially in densely populated areas, to
consult with adjacent schools, neighborhoods and regions rather than act
individually.
