S. Korean FM to visit Algeria, UAE

By Lee Chi-dong
SEOUL, Oct. 29 (Yonhap) -- South Korean Foreign Minister Yu Myung-hwan will visit
Algeria and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) next week for talks with his
counterparts on ways to promote economic cooperation and partnership on global
issues, his ministry said Thursday.

Yu will leave Friday for Rome to preside over the annual meeting of the heads of
South Korean diplomatic missions in Europe, slated for Saturday, and then head to
Algeria, it said.
During his two-day stay in Algeria from Monday, Yu plans to hold talks with
Algerian Foreign Minister Mourad Medelci on how to bolster ties between the two
nations in diverse sectors including construction, hydroelectric power,
development cooperation, and cultural exchange.
Yu will then fly to the UAE on Wednesday, where he will meet Foreign Minister
Anwar Mohammed Gargash and pay a courtesy call on the UAE's Crown Prince Sheikh
Mohammad bin Zayed Al Nahyan.
"To be discussed are ways to forge comprehensive cooperative relations between
the two sides," Yu's ministry said in a press release.
The minister will also ask the UAE authorities to help South Korean companies
participate in major national projects such as construction of nuclear power
plants and new cities in the Middle Eastern nation, it added.
Yu's trip is expected to provide Seoul with a chance to deepen ties with the
countries as they emerge as export markets for the nuclear plant, biofuel, and
infrastructure sectors, the ministry said.
