Experts group to oversee implementation of civil nuclear prog
Mumbai, Oct 30 (PTI) The Department of Atomic Energy has
formed a broad-based group of experts to achieve the ambitious
target of adding a capacity of 59,000 MW nuclear power by
2032, Chairman of Atomic Energy Commission Anil Kakodkar said
Friday.
Detailing about the new opportunities that can be availed
through domestic and international civil nuclear cooperation,
Kakodkar said, "a broad-based group is refining the way
forward for our nuclear power programme."
He was speaking on the occasion of 100th birth centenary
of Bhabha Atomic Research Centre founder Homi J Bhabha.
The group comprises about 15 to 20 senior experts from
various fields assisted by a large number of junior
scientists.
"An important feature of the group is involvement of a
significant number of experts from all related fields who
would moniter the implementation of the programmes," he said.
Based on the available technologies, it is possible to
add a capacity of around 59,000 MW of electricity generation
through PHWRs (Pressurised Heavy Water Reactors), LWRs (Light
Water Reactors), Fast breeder reactors and Advanced Heavy
Water Reactors by 2032, Kakodkar said. (More) PTI LV
