Development of air-borne Time Domain Electro-Magnetic
(TDEM) system by Indira Gandhi Centre for Atomic Research at
Kalpakkam and BARC is progressing and it is expected to be
available for field deployment soon, he said.
TDEM is an important tool to detect deep seated deposits
that do not have any surface manifestations and has added a
new dimension to Atomic Minerals Division's uranium
exploration efforts.
On recent developments, he said the Department has got
approval for two 700 MW units of PHWRs each to set up at
Kakrapar in Gujarat and Rawatbhata in Rajasthan.
"Government has given approval for two new sites for
setting up a total of six 700 MW PHWRs and three new sites for
setting up parks for Light water reactors in addition to sites
at Koodankulam and Jaitapur that were approved earlier,"
Kakodkar said.
Expansion of BARC at Vizag, Tata Institute of Fundamental
Research at Hyderabad and other DAE institutions will boost
the ambitious nuclear power programme as fundamental research
will become stronger, he said. PTI LV
