"Since the scale of implementation and operation is going
to be huge, the group will identify projects to be taken up,
their time of implementation and study their implications,"
Kakodkar said.
He said the composite group mainly consists of officials
from within the DAE currently.
"In the medium term, the group has emphasised on
development of technologies related to metallic fuel-based
FBRs and their fuel cycle with clear identification of R and D
tasks that need to be completed along with their respective
time frames," he said.
Referring to the recent goal set up by the Prime Minister
of 470,000 MW by 2050, Kakodkar said, this goal was very much
achievable according to evaluation of the group.
"The group has also identified technologies that need to
be developed to fully exploit the country's vast thorium
resources and fusion energy in the long term," Kakodkar said.
On the fuel side, he said "we expect to start soon
additional uranium projects in Karnataka, Meghalaya and Andhra
Pradesh.
Expansion of mill at Turmandih and construction of mines
at Mohuldih in Jaduguda and construction of mine and mill at
Tummalapalli in Andhra Pradesh are also on the anvil, he said.
