Govt to work with all states to enforce law and order
New Delhi, Oct 30 (PTI) Admitting that there could be
differences of opinion among United Progressive Alliance (UPA)
leaders on the Naxal issue, Indian Prime Minister Manmohan
Singh Friday said the Indian government will work with all
state governments regardless of their "political complexion"
for enforcing law and order.
"We are a functioning democracy and also there are
occasions when there are differences of opinion among various
leaders of our own coalition," he said, when asked about
Indian government's readiness to work with Left Front-ruled
West Bengal (India's eastern state) in fighting the Maoists.
The Prime Minister was speaking at the Hindustan Times
Leadership summit here.
"Let there be no doubt, law and order as I said, is
the primary responsibility of every civilised state and
whatever comes in the way of maintenance of law and order will
be dealt with as it ought to be dealt with", Singh said.
The Prime Minister said the Centre needed active
cooperation from states for maintaining law and order and was
willing to work with all the state governments "regardless of
their political complexion to strengthen the processes of
enforcement of law and order". PTI AJD
