To a question on his peace offer to Pakistan in the wake
of the internal situation in that country, Singh said,
"Pakistan is grappling with many internal problems. Rise of
terrorism is one of them. I wish them success (in combating
terrorism)."

"India will be happy to extend a helpful and supportive
hand to all its neighbours," he said at the Summit where
Pakistan's High Commissioner Shahid Malik was among the host
of dignitaries.
"We should not allow our past to limit our future," the
Prime Minister said, adding "we need a leadership in our
region that can take a long-term view and has the courage to
take bold decisions."
On Wednesday, Singh had in Srinagar renewed India's
offer of friendship with Pakistan and followed it up
yesterday, saying there were no pre-conditions for holding
dialogue but made it clear that cross-border terrorism has to
end from the country.
To a question on China, he said notwithstanding the
differences on border issue, the two countries have immense
opportunities to work together in cooperation.
"(This is) because there is ample space in the world to
accommodate the growth ambitions of both India and China. We
have problems of border but we have also agreed that pending
the resolution of the boundary questions, peace and
tranquility should prevail along the border," he said.
At the same time, Singh said the government was paying
adequate attention to security aspect in relation to China.
