OCTOBER SEES MORE HOUTHI DEATH RULINGS
SANA'A, Oct. 31 (Saba) - Yemen sentenced on Saturday eight more
Houthi supporters to death and 13 others to 5-12 years in jail after
they were convicted of forming armed gangs that fought the troops
last year.
The State Penal Court, However, acquitted two of two of the Bani
Hushaish groups, named after the area where their members come from,
accused of fighting the troops in support for the Houthi rebels
northwest Sana'a last year.
The sentenced on Saturday were of the third and fourth groups.
The verdict comes among a series of rulings delivered this month for
the subversive groups charged with supporting the north-based
insurgency.
About 20 Houthi suspects have been sentenced to death and more than
25 subversives to jail terms ranging from 5 to 15 years.
In July, Yemen handed down death sentences to ten subversives after
they were found guilty of forming armed gangs and fighting the
troops in support for the Houthis.
Others were given jail terms ranging from 5-15 years.
Indictments against the sentenced included that they had weapons
which they used to carry out bombings, fight troops and harm the
people's interests.
Many of the groups have gone on trials.
July verdicts came after several hearings in which more than 140
accused faced Yemen court on charges related to forming armed
groups.
