S. Korea, Guatemala agree to closer economic ties
SEOUL, Oct. 31 (Yonhap) -- South Korea and Guatemala agreed to push for closer
cooperation in matters related to the economy, energy, education, and various
other fields, Seoul's foreign ministry said Saturday.
The agreement came at a meeting between Vice Foreign Minister Shin Kak-soo and
top officials from the Central American nation earlier this week, it added.
In a meeting with Guatemalan Vice President Rafael Espada, Shin also requested
support for South Korean firms hoping to take part in the country's plans to
build a hydroelectric plant and modernize its military.
Espada noted South Korea's "low-carbon and green growth" policy and expressed
hope for deepened ties between the two nations, according to the ministry.
Shin also met his counterpart Miguel Angel Ibarra for talks on ways to improve
bilateral relations.
"Vice Foreign Minister Shin's trip there is part of high-level visits between the
two nations, which have become active recently, and it is expected to contribute
to promoting substantial cooperation," a ministry official said.
