Zambian student admitted to Seoul university

SANCHEONG, South Korea, Nov. 1 (Yonhap) -- A Zambian student currently attending
a South Korean high school has been admitted to one of the nation's top
universities, his school said Sunday.

Kent Kamasumba, 20, has received admission to the agricultural economics
department at Seoul National University, despite having come to South Korea only
seven months ago, according to an official at Jirisan High School.
The Zambian student departed his home country to study in Korea in April and has
since taken courses in the local high school in Sancheong, South Gyeongsang
Province, 362 south of Seoul, with support of the school and Korean missionaries,
the school said.
"I am so pleased to have a chance to study in Korea," Kamasumba said in English,
adding he had previously been unable to pursue his studies due to financial
difficulties at home.
"I chose the agricultural economics major because I believe Zambia needs
innovation in the agricultural sector," he said.
Kasumba aspires to earn a doctorate in Korea, but learning the Korean language
and adjusting to his first winter here are his priorities, he said.
