S. Korea hails Honduras deal to end political turmoil

By Lee Chi-dong
SEOUL, Nov. 2 (Yonhap) -- South Korea on Monday welcomed a political deal between
the rival camps of Honduras to end their four months of feud and expressed hope
that the Central American nation will recover its democracy through a fair
presidential election slated for late this month.

"South Korea welcomes an important agreement between the two sides reached
through in a democratic and peaceful way," foreign ministry spokesman Moon
Tae-young said in a statement.
Seoul hopes that Honduras, based on the deal, will hold its presidential election
on Nov. 29 "fairly and transparently," he added.
Last Friday, negotiators for ousted president Manuel Zelaya and the de-facto
leader Roberto Micheletti who replaced him, agreed to put an end to the political
turmoil.
