GM Daewoo's auto sales fall 24.6 pct in October

SEOUL, Nov. 2 (Yonhap) -- GM Daewoo Auto & Technology Co., the South Korean unit
of U.S. carmaker General Motors Co., said Monday its auto sales fell 24.6 percent
in October from a year earlier, hurt by falling exports.

GM Daewoo sold 55,314 of its Matiz mini cars, Lacetti compact cars and Winstorm
sport-utility vehicles last month, with domestic sales jumping 47.4 percent to
12,369 units and exports dropping 33.9 percent to 42,945 units, the company said
in a statement.
Despite the sluggish performance, GM Daewoo Vice President Rick LaBelle said in
the statement the company expects sales to rebound from next year.
"We are seeing signs of some economic growth in our key export markets and ... we
are expecting strong sales into the beginning of next year," LaBelle said.
In the first 10 months of this year, GM Daewoo's vehicle sales plunged 41.3
percent from a year ago to 457,537 units.
