INDEPENDENT TEAM NOT FOR PRESIDENT'S INTEREST

Jakarta, Nov 2 (ANTARA) - The independent team to be set up to verify legal facts on the case of detained Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) deputies Bibit Samad Rianto and Chandra M Hamzah was not merely for President Yudhoyono's interest.

"The people are certainly waiting for the result of what the independent team has done for the interest of all of us and not merely for President Yudhoyono nor Bibit and Hamzah," team chairman Adnan Buyung Nasution said here on Monday.

Adnan said the independent team was establish for the interest of the state and nation in accordance with the goal of democracy, law, and human rights.

Earlier on Monday, Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs Djoko Suyanto announced that the president would soon issue a presidential decree on the establishment of the independent team.

According to Djoko Suyanto, the team would be chaired by Presidential Advisory Council member Adnan Buyung Nasution with deputy Koesparmono Irsan (former member of the National Human Rights Commission), secretary Denny Indrayana (Presidential special staff for legal affairs) and five team members namely Amir Syamsuddin, prof. of University of Indonesia's school of law (FHUI), Todung Mulya Lubis (legal practitioner), Anies Baswedan (rector of Paramadina University), Hikmahanto Juwana (prof. of FHUI), and Komaruddin Hidayat (rector of the Jakarta State Islamic University (UIN).

Adnan explained that the team would work for two weeks with a target to give recommendation about Bibit and Chandra case to the president.

"I want the people to be patient with the president's quick response to the inputs from the public," Adnan said.

Meanwhile, team member Hikmahanto said the team would verify the legal facts and process carried out by the police against Bibit and Hamzah.

But he added that the team would not be widened to other matters surrounding the case because the main objective of setting up the team was to find fact on the case of Bibit and Chandra. ***4***
