GOVT TO TAKE SOME OF NEWMONT`S SHARES
Jakarta, Nov 3 (ANTARA) - The government has decided to take some of the 14 percent shares to be divested by PT Newmont Nusa Tenggara through a consortium led by state-owned PT Aneka Tambang Tbk, a minister said.
"The divestment process of the Newmont shares is still being discussed by the central and regional administrations under the coordination of the minister of energy and mineral resources," Economic Affairs Coordinating Minister Hatta Radjasa said on Tuesday.
Hatta said that in principle the government would accommodate all parties (the state-owned company and the local government).
"In prinicle all parties will be accommodated but the government will not interfere with regard to business-to-business affairs," he said.
PT Aneka Tambang (Antam) will cooperate with PT Batubara Bukit Asam and also involve the State Investment Center (PIP) in its consortium, he said.
Hatta said the government would take into account aspirations of all parties involved in the divestment.
In principle the government has already approved the divestment plan that would involve local governments. "Regarding business let them discuss it by themselves. The local government would cooperate with a private party which in essence means they would discuss it together," he said.
Hatta did not tell the shares the companies that would participate in the consortium would take.
"I did not interfere in the distribution of shares between Antam and consortium members including the local government," he said.
He also did not tell about the consortium's source of funds for buying the shares.
"Regarding business they would discuss it by themselves. The local government certainly is not doing business and so they will set up a kind of company for it," he said. ***
