GOVT PREPARES SPECIAL STEPS TO SUPPORT INFRASTRUCTURE DEVELOPMENT

Jakarta, Nov 3 (ANTARA) - The government is preparing special steps to speed up infrastructure development in the country, Finance Minister Sri Mulyani Indrawati said.

"In infrastructure development, either sectorally or regionally, the Finance Ministry will take steps to support it," she said at a stakeholders gathering to mark the 63rd Finance Day here on Monday night.

Also present were Trade Minister Mari Pangestu, Chief of the Regional Representatives Council (DPD) Irman Gusman, State Audit Board (BPK) member TM Nurlif and a number of governors and district heads.

The steps included guaranteeing the construction of power plants with a combined capacity of 10,000 MW, subsidizing the construction of low-cost houses and flats under a home ownership credit scheme and providing additional capital for export activities, she said.

In addition, the government would also increase the amount of funds for the Public Service Board (BLU) to speed up the construction of toll roads, give guarantees to regional drinking companies to settle their financial obligations, provide interest subsidy in the supply of clean water, and assist state-owned companies in settling problematic debts, he said.

In the field of state budget, she said the Finance Ministry was also preparing a number of necessary steps, including a draft of state budget for priority programs in the first three months of 2010.

"We also have launched PNPM (community empowerment national program) activities in support of infrastructure development and post-natural disaster rehabilitation and reconstruction efforts that have not yet been completed and will be continued in 2010," she said.***
