MK JUDGE: INDEPENDENT TEAM MUST IMMEDIATELY INVESTIGATE ANGGODO

Jakarta, Nov 3 (ANTARA) - A Constitutional Court (MK) judge said here on Tuesday that the independent fact-finding team on the Bibit-Chandra case must immediately investigate Anggodo Widjojo in connection with his conversations with a number of law enforcement officials.

"The team must immediately investigate Anggodo to avoid bureaucratic hurdles," the judge, Akil Mochtar, said at his office here on Tuesday evening.

The MK held a session earlies in the day to listen to recordings of wiretapped conversations between Anggodo and a number of law enforcement officials.

Akil said the team which was set up based on a presidential instruction to collect legal facts surrounding the detention of suspended antigraft commissioners Bibit Samat Ryanto and Chandra M Hamzah to move quickly to uncover the case.

He said Anggodo's investigation would also help the team to investigate the Bibit-Chandra case.

Akil said the status of the brother of corruption suspect Anggoro Widjojo was personal, not institutional like KPK, the Attorney General's Office or the police and therefore could be immediately processed based on the recordings as Anggodo had also mentioned the name of the President in the recordings.

Meanwhile, Law and Human Rights Minister Patrialis Akbar said anyone who was found "selling" or misusing the name of President SBY (Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono) must be immediately investigated.

"This is slander, smearing one's reputation," he said.

Patrialis asked all parties not to politicize the issue because it had to do with the reputation of the head of state.

"Please respect this. Do not take it as the truth," he said.

He said he would refer to the Constitutional Court's decision with regard to the content of the recordings.

He declined to say what he would do next with regard to the case but noted that in principle President SBY had already ordered a thorough investigation into the case. ***
