S. Korean official elected Asian ombudsman head
BANGKOK, Nov. 3 (Yonhap) -- Lee Jae-oh, head of South Korea's Anti-Corruption and
Civil Rights Commission, has been elected as the head of the Asian chapter of the
International Ombudsman Institute (IOI) during the 11th Asian Ombudsman
Association conference here on Monday.
Lee will serve as the head of the Asian regional chapter of the IOI for the next
four years.
Lee said South Korea will make efforts to increase cooperation among ombudsman
institutes in Asia both in quantity and quality, as his country has rich
experience in international cooperation and the settlement of people's
predicaments.
The IOI, established in 1978, is the only global organization for the cooperation
of more than 150 ombudsman institutions around the world. In addition to its
periodic conferences, the IOI fosters regional and international information
exchange.
The International Ombudsman Institute is organized in regional chapters in
Africa, Asia, Australasia and the Pacific, Europe, the Caribbean and Latin
