WIKA SECURES BANK SUPPORT FOR PROJECT EXPANSION IN NORTH AFRICA
Jakarta, Nov 2 (ANTARA) - PT.Wijaya Karya Tbk (WIKA)managed to secure bank support for an expansion in the construction from a number of oil-rich countries in North Africa.
"By the end of 2009 we would soon be able to start building a construction project in Algeria, North Africa, following a similar projects in Libya and Tunisia," president director of Wika Bintang Perbowo said in Jakarta Monday when presenting a financial report for the third quarter of 2009.
He said in the expansion projects in North Africa, the company got a guarantee from the Indonesian Exim Bank which had been rather difficult for the banks in Indonesia to get.
"The guarantee from banks assures that letters of credit (LC) we have issued can be disbursed and the money from working in some countries in North Africa could return to Indonesia," Bintang said.
Bintang said Wika had earlier secured a road and bridge construction project of a length of 1200 kilometers linking Algeria and Morocco, and its contract value had even be raised from Rp400 billion to Rp700 billion.
Actually they have been offering many other projects in the oil-rich countries, but right now we limited the projects only under sub-contract basis, like the road and bridge project, which is a sub-contract from a Japanese construction company.
"The problem of bank guarantee is our obstacle in building construction projects abroad, although it is still fortunate that the government had tasked the Indonesian Exim Bank to facilitate our company under Law No 2 of 2009 on the ways and means to finance exporters operating at home and abroad," he said.
Bintang said that until the end of September 2009 the company`s net sales had been maintained at Rp4.6 trillion compared to last year`s same period.
In the meantime, the company`s net profit increased from Rp84.9 billion to Rp132.6 billion, mostly comprised a contribution from the main sum of Rp101 billion, while the end-target for 2009 had been set at Rp135 billion, he said.
Bintang also said that up to October 2009 he had pocketed
Rp1.052 trillion from seven Jatibarang dams, Kaligarang
Flood Control, Mechanical and Enginering project at Kualanamu airport, Pekanbaru stadium Balikpapan I, and a power plant in Bali.
