RI FOREIGN OFFICE SECURES MATERNUS BERE'S RETURN TO INDONESIA

Kupang, Nov 3 (ANTARA) - The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has finally met the demand from Maternus Bere`s family in Atambua, Belu, East Nusa Tenggara, to ensure his safe repatriation crossing the Motaain RI-Timor Leste border on Thursday (29/10).

"Maternus Bere has been discharged and is currently undergoing medical treatment at a hospital in Atambua since was accommodated at the Indonesian Embassy in Dili in August 2009," Eliseus Kehi, Maternus Bere`s son said from Kupang on Tuesday.

Eliseus, and his family said they were relieved to receive the good news from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs spokesperson Tengku Faizasyah in Jakarta Monday (2/11).

"Frankly now we feel relieved after receiving the good news from the foreign ministry about my father`s return to the Indonesia and this is what the family has been hoping for since last Thursday, when my father`s repatriation was widely discussed, but we haven`t met him in person until now," he said.

He admitted that his father`s current health has not stabilized yet so Maternus must undergo a medical examination and treatment.

"After undergoing the healing process, my father could be returned to his family. Right now he is still being monitored, " he said.

Eliseus from Jogjakarta sent his best regards to the Indonesian government, because the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has ensured the return to Indonesia of the former militia in the East Timor polls in 1999.

"On behalf of our family we also thank Prime Minister Xanana Gusmao, President Ramos Horta, the TNI (Indonesian Army), Indonesian Police, National Police of Timor Leste, Indonesian Embassy in Dili, the hospitals which had treated my father and Other parties who had cared by father," he said.
