SOME 150 MORE RI TROOPS FOR UNIFIL ARRIVE IN LEBANON
Jakarta, Nov 3 (ANTARA)- A total of 150 Indonesian military personnel as reinforcement of the Indonesian contingent in the UN peacekeeping force in South Lebanon (UNIFIL) have arrived in South Lebanon.
The 150 military personnel were added to the UN peacekeeping force in South Lebanon (UNIFIL) to support security and stability in the region.
The Indonesian troops in the UN peace-keeping force were called TNI Mechanical Company Garuda XXIII-C1/UNIFIL Contingent.
"With the arrival of the additional troops, the number of TNI personnel participating in the UN mission in southern Lebanon has reached 1,298 ," Task Force information officer XXIII-C/UNIFIL Lt Col Mulyanto told Antara through electronic mail on Tuesday (Nov.3)
The arrival of Konga Task Force Headquarters Battalion XXIII-C1/Unifil was greeted with a military ceremony led by Indobatt Task Force Commander, Lt Col Raden Haryono.
Raden Haryono confirmed, the arrival of the country`s new company further increases the local people`s confidence in the existence of Garuda Indonesian contingent in Lebanon, in a mission of peace, so that security and stability can be constantly maintained and achieved lasting peace in Lebanon.
The Indonesian battalion currently has regional operating responsibilities covering an area of 84 km2 in 13 villages of South Lebanon which share borders directly with Israel.
With the arrival of an additional company incorporated in Indobatt, it was planned that regional responsibility of Indobatt will expand, he said.
"Until now, the responsibility of the addition of the Indonesian battalion has not been decided by UNIFIL, but it is possibly to control the military contingent area of Srifa that was previously the responsibility of the French battalion," he said.
The military personnel were seen off in a military ceremony in Jakarta on Friday (Oct 30).
The TNI chief of general staff, Vice Admiral Didik Heru Purnomo who led the sending off ceremony, said the Indonesian troops in southern Lebanon were increased in accordance with a UN request, based on the security situation in southern Lebanon.
