Seoul stocks open higher on U.S. gains, bargain-hunting

SEOUL, Nov. 4 (Yonhap) -- South Korean stocks started stronger Wednesday on overnight U.S. gains and bargain-hunting, analysts said.

The benchmark Korea Composite Stock Price Index (KOSPI) rose 6.47 points, or 0.42
percent, to 1,556.39 in the first 15 minutes of trading.
Wall Street shares gained ground on Tuesday, led by rising commodities shares and
a corporate merger and acquisition deal. Local institutional investors hunted
bargains following a six-session losing streak.
The local currency was trading at 1,181.25 won to the U.S. dollar as of 9:15
a.m., up 0.75 won from Tuesday's close.
