S. Korea sees sales of imported cars jump 42.6 pct in Oct.
SEOUL, Nov. 4 (Yonhap) -- Sales of imported cars in South Korea jumped 42.6
percent from a year ago in October thanks to the introduction of new brands amid
signs of an economic recovery, industry data showed Wednesday.
Import sales totaled 6,092 units last month, marking the second monthly increase,
the Korea Automobile Importers and Distributors Association said in a statement.
Compared with a month earlier, October sales rose 2 percent.
Germany's Mercedes-Benz was the most popular foreign car brand in South Korea
last month with 949 units sold, followed by BMW with 776.
Japan's Toyota Motor Corp., which began selling its flagship Camry mid-size sedan
and Prius hybrid cars late last month, sold 529 units in October. Also, Toyota
sold 407 units of its luxury Lexus sedan last month.
In the first 10 months of this year, sales of imported cars in South Korea fell
10.8 percent from a year ago to 48,737 units, the association said.
