"They are now ready to increase again the cooperation with and investment in Indonesia including in the oil and gas sector, new and renewable energy sources as well as in increasing the capacity of electricity generation," he said.

He said he hoped the cooperation program could expedite conversion of oil fuels to new and renewable energy sources such as geothermal, wind and biomass energy.

Davies on the occasion said a lot of companies from Britain had invested up to billions of US dollars in the country. "We are convinced in the future the cooperation in the energy sector will strengthen," he said.

He said further meetings would be held to discuss in more detail the forms of cooperation to be carried out.

In the near future, he said, he would hold a symposium which would be a meeting forum of investors from Britain.

The ministry's director general of electricity and energy use, J Purwono, said besides geothermal, wind and bio-mass projects Britain was also interested to invest in a coal-fired electricity project namely PLTU Pemalang in Central Java which has a 2x1,000MW capacity.

"Indeed the projects they are interested in are in line with our policy to increase use of new and renewable energy sources," he said.

He said through the symposium it was hoped breakthroughs would be made to increase investment including financing facility from banks in Britain.
