MALUKU GOVERNOR TO RECEIVE WORLD PEACE GONG ON MONDAY

Ambon, Nov 4 (ANTARA) - Coordinating Minister for People's Welfare Agung Laksono will hand a World Peace gong to Maluku Governor Karel Albert Ralahalu in Jepara, Central Java, next Monday.

Contacted by phone from here on Wednesday, World Peace Day local committee chairman Cak Saimima said in the Central Java provincial city of Semarang that the gong, made by a Jepara craftsman, would be handed by Central Java Governor Bibit Waluyo to Agung Laksono who would pass it on to Ralahalu.

"The gong will be handed to Governor Ralahalu and then flown to Ambon's Pattimura international airport either on November 11 or 12, 2009," Saimima said.

He said President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono was scheduled to strike the gong to mark the peak event of World Peace Day in Ambon on November 20, 2009.

"I am still coordinating with World Peace Day committee president Djuyoto Suntani about transporting the gong from Semarang to Ambon," Saimima said.

He said the commemoration of the 29th World Peace Day in Ambon would be special because it would be held in a provincial capital instead of in Jakarta.

He said activities to support the World Peace Day had already started on October 11, 2009 in Ambon and were launched by Governor Ralahalu in conjunction with the Ambon Jazz Plus Festival (AJPF) at the Karang Panjang Cultural Park.

The activities consisted of a three-day seminar on culture from October 19-21 at the gubernatorial office building, swimming competition from Galala ferry port to Poka ferry port on October 20, boat race in Ambon Inner Bay on October 31, a cultural festival at Karang Panjang Cultural Park, a seminar on peace and the opening of an exhibition at the governor's office and Merdeka square, and
a Maluku traditional sports competition at Mandala Remaja stadium.

Saimima said President Yudhoyono at the function to strike the world peace gong would be accompanied by a number of ministers, United Nations representatives in Indonesia, Governor Ralahalu, and a number of peace initiators from Maluku.
