To top it all, the Indian fielding too was below par
barring a few diving stops as there were a number of
mis-fields, Nehra in particular being pathetic with his slow
running and poor anticipation.
Skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni was himself a culprit in
letting off an upper edge from Marsh when the batsman tried to
cut Harbhajan bowling his second over. Marsh was on 29 just
after Australia had reached 100 in the 16th over. He was again
dropped on 52 by Virender Sehwag at short extra cover off
Yuvraj Singh.
Later Yuvraj could not complete a stiff caught and bowled
effort when Watson drove powerfully. The right-handed opener
was on 90 in a team score of 134 for no loss in the 23rd over.
From the start the right-left pair of Watson and Marsh,
with the former donning the role of the aggressor in the
partnership, was ruthless on the wayward Indian bowling attack
on a batting paradise to rattle up 97 in the first 15 overs.
Watson used the pull shot whenever the bowlers pitched
short and raced to his 50 in only 40 balls.
Watson, lucky to escape the difficult caught and bowled
chance off Yuvraj when 10 short of the century, fell seven
adrift of his three-figure mark when he mistimed a slog-sweep
off Harbhajan to be caught off the top edge by Jadeja at
mid-wicket.
Harbhajan and Yuvraj kept the run-rate considerably down
and did not concede any boundary between the 19th and 29th
overs but Australia could not be denied the 350-mark. PTI
