NCsoft Q3 net posts 9-fold increase on overseas sales surge

By Lee Youkyung

SEOUL, Nov. 6 (Yonhap) -- NCsoft Corp., South Korea's leading online game developer, said Friday that its third-quarter earnings rose more than nine fold from a year earlier led by a surge in sales in North America and Europe.

Net profits stood at 46.9 billion won (US$39.8 million) during the three months
ended on Sept. 30, compared with 5 billion won a year ago, the company said in a
regulatory filing.
Sales doubled on year to 166.3 billion won while operating profit logged a
seven-fold increase with 56.6 billion won, it said.
The third-quarter bottom line marked the highest quarterly net profit and a
fourth straight quarterly rise, according to the developer of Lineage, one of the
world's most popular online games.
Shares of NCsoft were trading at 136,500 won on the Seoul bourse as of 10:00
a.m., up 9.64 percent from Thursday's close.
The company ascribed its stellar performance to the popularity of its new game
Aion among overseas users, which was introduced in North America and Europe in
September.
Sales in North America doubled on quarter to 24.2 billion won while those in
Europe quadrupled to 17 billion won, the company said.
Overseas sales accounted for 52 percent of its total revenues, exceeding domestic
sales for the first time, it added.
