PRESIDENT GIVES NO RESPONSE TO ANGGODO'S LETTER

Jakarta, Nov 6 (ANTARA) - President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono (SBY) has never responded to Anggodo Widjojo's request for protection through the Victim and Witness Protection Agency (LPSK), presidential special staff Denny Indrayana said.

Indrayana told the press after Friday prayers within the Presidential Palace compound that in a wiretapped conversation there was a question whether or not the letter of request had been sent to RI1 (the president).

The conversation which was bugged by the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) was made between businessman Anggodo Widjojo and his lawyer, Bonaran Situmeang.

"I received the letter which asked for protection from the LPSK. Actually, the letter was sent by his lawyer Bonaran to the president. He asked for legal protection, just like those in other cases," Denny said.

He said that if the request concerned a legal case, it was never responded to. "On intervention, the president would never make any response," he added.

On the conversations in recordings between a woman and a man which said SBY had lent his support, Danny said it was not true.

"It is only a variation, a flower of the talk, not the main focus. I think she mentioned the president's name only in an attempt to raise her bargaining position against the person she was talking to," he said.

On the resignations of Deputy Attorney General Abdul Hakim Ritonga and Police's Criminal Investigation Department Chief Commissioner General Susno Duaji, Danny said the president had since the beginning asked that the case be investigated.

"The president many times said that a firm step must be taken so that the proceeding of the investigation process would be fair for all," he said.

He said that there would be investigation against the two so that it would be fair, and it would not stop only at the verification process but it would be continued to a legal process.***1***
