COMMUNICATIONS TOOLS TO IMPROVE RI-ASEAN CONNECTIVITY, OFFICIAL SAYS

Jakarta, Nov 8 (ANTARA) - Chief of Public Information Division (BIP) at the Communications and Information Ministry Freddy H Tulung stated that communication was among the important tools for Indonesia to in building connectivity with other members of ASEAN.

"Communication is the cheapest and easiest way to connect with people in other the ASEAN countries," Freddy said during a seminar to celebrate the 26th anniversary of the Indonesian Communication Graduates Association (ISKI) at the National Library here on Sunday.

"Among the things to be noticed of efforts to build better communications among the ASEAN members is development of digital technology especially those related to integrated service of telecommunications, information and broadcasting," Freddy said.

Freddy explained that several areas in Indonesia were yet to be able to have access to information. He added that telecommunications, broadcasting and the Internet industry in the country were still operating in different infrastructure.

As to the content of programs shown in media, Freddy emphasized the importance to provide good contents.

"If not managed correctly, by the time the ASEAN Community is implemented in 2015, information from the region will dominate the Indonesian media," said Freddy.
