WB ready to support Yemen for more banking reforms

SANA'A, Nov. 08 (Saba) - The
World Bank (WB) voiced on Sunday readiness to support Yemen to carry out more
reforms in the
banking system in Yemen.
During her meeting with the Governor of Central bank of Yemen (CBY) Ahmed
al-Samawi, the WB Vice President Shamshad Akhtar said that the bank would support
the CPY to be
able to implement banking system reforms all over the country.
The meeting discussed the possibility of WB support to improve the CBY banking
activities to meet with the new changes in the international and regional banking
arena.
The meeting also touched on the WB technical assistance to update the CBY sectors
of control, information technology, payment systems and management of foreign
exchange
reserve.
The CBY governor highlighted to the developments in the Yemen's banking systems,
accentuating that it has not been affected by the global financial crisis.
On the other hand, al-Samawi met also with the chairman of the Union of Arab
Chambers of Commerce, Industry, and Agriculture Adnan Al Qassar, who is visiting
Yemen to discuss
a number of issues with Yemeni officials in the government and the Federation of
Yemen Chambers of Commerce and Industry.
