15-KG MORTAR FOUND IN KUTAI
Samarinda, Nov 9 (ANTARA) - A 15-kg mortar was found by residents in Jembatan Tujuh, Sangasanga subdistrict, Kutai Kartanegara regency, East Kalimantan, last Friday.
"The mortar was found by a resident, Suparlan, stuck in marshes, who reported the find to the police," the police in Samarinda said.
The mortar, with a diameter of nine centimeters and a length of 83 centimeters, the police said was still active.
"The mortar did not explode apparently because it fell in a wet rice field," the police said.
"Mortar is suspected still very dangerous because it may explode if tempered on or heated," the police said.
This was the second time that the Samarinda police found a mortar in Sangasanga subdistrict this year.
The recently found explosive is now in the hands of the police for safekeeping.
