TEAM 8: NOT ENOUGH PROOF TO CONTINUE BIBIT-CHANDRA CASE
Jakarta, Nov 9 (ANTARA) - The team of eight charged with verifying legal facts and process of the Bibit-Chandra case said that there was not enough proof to continue the case.
At a press conference here on Monday evening Adnan Buyung Nasution, the chairman of the team, said if the charge of abusing power was used to continue the case there would be difficulties proving it because the article used for dealing with the charge was a "rubber" article.
"If it was forced, I repeat, if forced, the case would be weak because it was based on a rubber article. Moreover what Bibit and Chandar have done is a common procedure which is also done by earlier antigraft (KPK) leaders," he said.
Regarding the extortion or bribery charges Adnan said the charges ended at the flow of funds from Anggodo Widjojo to Ary Muladi.
"The flow of funds from Ary Muladi to Yulianto or directly to KPK leaders could not be proven and shown to the team," he said.
The team at the conference only presented its evaluation or conclusion they made after working for a week listening to various parties and an expose done in cooperation with the police and the attorney general's office.
The team presented its recommendations to President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono who had assigned them through Coordinating Minister for Political, Security and Legal Affairs Djoko Suyanto at the latter's office on Monday evening.
The team would not tell about the recommendations. The team's spokesman, Anies Baswedan, said the recommendations were sent in a sealed envelop even coordinating minister Djoko Suyanto did not know about it.
The recommendations are still temporary in nature as the team would still work to complete information that had been collected from various parties to make the final recommendation that would be submitted next week.
According to plans the team on Tuesday would still summon KPK deputy for enforcement Ade Rahardja and former vice attorney general Abdul Hakin Ritonga as well as Eddie Sumarsono. ***1***
