Samsung to recall 43,000 microwave ovens in U.S.
By Lee Youkyung
SEOUL, Nov. 10 (Yonhap) -- South Korean electronics giant Samsung Electronics Co.
said Tuesday that it has decided to recall more than 43,000 microwave ovens sold
in the U.S. due to a faulty component.
The move follows a discovery that certain "over-the-range" microwave ovens have a
capacitor, a device that accumulates electric charge, located incorrectly,
Samsung said.
"In some circumstances if the power cord is connected to an ungrounded outlet,
there could be a remote risk of shock," Samsung said on its Web site.
Samsung said no accidents have been reported due to the problem and none of the
same microwave models were sold in Korea.
The recall comes Samsung decided last week to freely repair more than 410,000
refrigerators sold at home and abroad because of safety concerns, after a Samsung
freezer exploded in South Korea last month.
