RI, US PREPARING CONCEPT FOR STRATEGIC BILATERAL COOPERATION
Jakarta, Nov 10 (ANTARA) - The Indonesian and United States governments are currently cooking up a concept for strategic bilateral cooperation, an Indonesian official said.
The proposal for strategic cooperation came from Indonesia and was responded to positively by the US and now teams from the two countries were drawing up a concept for the cooperation, presidential spokesman Dino Patti Djalal told a press conference here Tuesday.
"Our president had proposed that there should be a strategic partnership between Indonesia and the United States, and this was positively responded to by the US government. Top officials from the two countries are at present trying to work out the idea in greater detail so we can eventually have a document spelling out practical steps," Djalal said.
President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono was scheduled to have a private meeting with US President Barack Obama on the sidelines of the APEC Summit and US-ASEAN Summit in Singapore later this week, Djalal said.
"President Yudhoyono will attend an APEC CEO Summit to deliver his address on November 13, and then attend an APEC leaders Summit to give his view on balanced growth and review the targets of the APEC meeting held in Bogor in 1994," Djalal said.
The APEC CEO Summit 2009 will bring together more than 800 of the world's top business leaders in Singapore to meet with leaders of some of the Pacific Rim's most powerful nations.
The two-day APEC CEO Summit on Nov 13-14 will focus on addressing the economic crisis and key global issues.
These include topics to prepare for the recovery of the global economy, strengthening corporate governance, harnessing the economics of climate change, leveraging on the power of sovereign wealth funds and multilateral institutions, as well as discussing the shape of things to come in the new global economic landscape.
Before attending the meetings in Singapore, President Yudhoyono would make a working visit to Malaysia on Nov 11-12. ***
