President appoints chief of inter-American bank as special adviser

By Byun Duk-kun
SEOUL, Nov. 10 (Yonhap) -- South Korean President Lee Myung-bak on Tuesday named
the chief of Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) as a member of his global
advisory group whose main task is to help improve the country's international
competitiveness, Seoul's presidential office Cheong Wa Dae said.

Luis Alberto Moreno became the latest member of the group that was launched in
June 2008 with 15 members, including the head of the U.S. software giant
Microsoft, Bill Gates.
The South Korean president noted Moreno, as well as the IDB, could help forge a
strategic partnership between his country and Central America.
"With South Korea's advanced technology and capital and Central America's rich
natural resources, the sides can create new opportunities through synergy coming
from their complementary economies," Lee was quoted as saying.
Moreno said the IDB will work with South Korea to improve their cooperation in
the green energy sector and will sign a memorandum of understanding toward that
end, according to Cheong Wa Dae.
