On the huge borrowings programme of the government for
funding public investment, Mukherjee said, "We have ensured
that government borrowing programme does not elbow out the
legitimate requirements of the productive sector of the
economy."

The government, he added, would continue to step up
investment in agriculture and infrastructure sectors to boost
domestic demand and maintain momentum of growth.
The industrial production recorded a growth of more
than 10 per cent during August and the figures for September
are slated to be announced on November 12.
Referring to the recent G-20 meeting, Mukherjee said
India had emphasised that protectionism was not an answer to
the global economic problems which needed to be sorted out in
the spirit of collectivism and cooperation.
On climate change, the Minister said, developed
countries need to appreciate that clean technologies would
have to be made available to the rest of the world at
affordable cost.
The Copenhagen Summit in December, he hoped, would be
taking various issues on board and come out with ways for
reaching clean technology to the developing nations.
"I am confident that the outcome of Copenhagen will be
productive and help us," the Minister added. PTI TEAM
