Bulletproof jacket worn by Karkare during 26/11 missing

Mumbai, Nov 10 (PTI) Where is the bulletproof jacket of
Hemant Karkare, a top police official of Mumbai Police gunned
down in the audacious terror strike in November last year?
According to Karkare's wife Kavita, who had filed an
Right to Information (RTI) to this effect, the bulletproof
jacket was reported missing by the authorities.

Despite wearing a bulletproof jacket, Karkare received
three fatal bullet-injuries in chest which put a question
mark over the efficacy of these jackets to provide safety in
the wake of such terror attacks.
"When his body was found, the bulletproof jacket was
missing...even at the hospital...I filed a RTI application few
months back asking where the jacket is but the reply I got was
that it is missing..," Kavita Karkare told PTI in an
interview Tuesday.
Karkare, a 1982 batch IPS officer, was killed in an
ambush near Cama Hospital, along with another Indian Police
Service (IPS) officer Ashok Kamte and encounter specialist
Vijay Salaskar during the November 26 carnage last year.
"TV channel recording clearly shows Hemant wearing a
jacket at CST and leaving in the van...so where did the jacket
go...I do not know if someone took it from him after that or
it was removed from his body later, but it is missing...," she
