Jaishree Balasubramaniam
Kuala Lumpur, Nov 11 (PTI) Bollywood's 'Badshah' Shah
Rukh is a heartthrob in Malaysia and the state of Malacca
which had earlier conferred the title of 'Datuk' on the star
now wants him to perform at a special concert later this year.
The 44-year-old actor who has a massive fan following
in the country had promised to shoot his upcoming movie 'Happy
New Year' here and State Chief Minister Mohd Ali Rustam said
Malacca would seek private sponsorship to help organise a show
where the star would perform.
"We are trying to get a private company or maybe
several more to sponsor the event. It will be worth their
while as they can get international publicity if Shah Rukh
Khan endorses their products," he told reporters Wednesday.
The concert planned for December 11 will be held in
conjunction with the UN World Assembly of Youths 60th
anniversary celebrations to be held here next month.
The event, he added, would be held at Stadium Hang
Jebat in Krubong to enable as many fans to catch their
Bollywood idol in action.
He said state representatives had recently met the
star in India to discuss how to promote and develop the local
film industry.
Khan, who was conferred the title of 'Datuk',the
Malaysian equivalent of 'Sir', by Malacca Governor Mohd Khalil
Yaakob last December, had said that he would be glad to assist
the state as an adviser. PTI JB
