GREENPEACE ACTIVISTS TIE UP HEAVY MACHINERY OF RAPP
Pelalawan, Nov 12 (ANTARA) - Some 30 Greenpeace activists had incapacitated heavy equipment of logging company PT Riau Andalan Pulp and Papers (RAPP), which had been used in acacia plantations in Semenanjung Kampar, Riau, Wednesday.
The heavy machinery were incapacitated by dozens of activists by chaining the heavy equipment to concrete poles, near the Pepadi gulf, Teluk Meranti District, Pelalawan Regency.
The activists came on six boats at around 05.30 local time from their headquarters set up last month in Semenanjung Kampar. They comprised 11 Greenpeace activists from Thailand, Philipines, Canada, Brazil and Finland.
They wore red uniforms and walked about 3 miles from the pier to the company`s heavy equipment depot.
A large closed natural forest was seen on their way there.
Along their way to the site, at least thousands of natural stems stacked on the road sides and used to pile up the muddy road. Uniquely, the company also laid a white carpet there.
The activists also been obstructed by three security guards dressed in black, but they practically could not do anything because they were outnumbered by the activists.
