SKYENERGI TO BUILD SOLAR POWER PLANT IN EAST SUMBA
Kupang, E Nusa Tenggara, Nov 13 (ANTARA) - Japan's SKYEnergy plans to build a solar power plant with a capacity of 3 megawatts in East Sumba district, East Nusa Tenggara.
The plan to build the biggest ever solar power plant in Southeast Asia was agreed upon in a memorandum of understanding signed by the company and the East Sumba district administration, a spokesman for the East Nusatenggara branch of state electricity company PT PLN, Paul Bola, said here on Friday.
"The solar power plant with a capacity of 3 MW in East Sumba will be the biggest in Southeast Asia. To date, the biggest solar power plant with a capacity of 3 MW is to be found in the Philippines," he said.
He said the Japanese company would sell electrical power to PLN for distribution to its subscribers.
The construction of the solar power plant would increase power supply in the district. As per August 2009, a total of 98 villages in the district still did not have access to electricity, he said.
