S. Korean president heads home after APEC summit
By Byun Duk-kun
SINGAPORE, Nov. 15 (Yonhap) -- South Korean President Lee Myung-bak headed home
Sunday after the end of a two-day summit of the Asia-Pacifc Economic Cooperation
(APEC) forum where he promoted free trade and collaboration with the G-20.
As head of the host nation for the G-20 summit in November next year, Lee
emphasized the cooperative link needed between the two economic forums, a notion
included in a joint statement of the APEC summit.
"We endorse the goals of the G-20 framework for strong, sustainable and balanced
growth," the joint statement said.
"Representing the economically most dynamic region in the world and accounting
for half of global trade and output, APEC is well placed to provide the momentum
necessary to achieve these goals," the statement said.
The South Korean president will arrive in Seoul late Sunday. He is scheduled to
hold a bilateral summit this week with U.S. President Barack Obama who will end
his four-nation Asia trip in South Korea.
