Searches in Paharganj, apparently for Headley trail

HEADLEY-SEARCHES

New Delhi, Nov 15 (PTI) Searches were carried out Sunday
in cyber cafes and hotels in central Delhi's Paharganj area
apparently in connection with probe into the terror designs of
suspected LeT operative David Headley, who stayed there in
March this year.

However, senior police officials refused to confirm
whether these searches were in connection with investigations
into Headley case and maintained that it was part of a
"routine exercise".
Police officials visited various hotels, cyber cafes and
telephone booths in the area and is understood to have
collected details about their customers during March one and
15 this year.
Headley, who was arrested by by FBI in Chicago last
month, had stayed in two hotels in Paharganj for three days
from March seven.
"This is part of a routine exercise. Every cyber cafe is
checked by police once a week and this area is frequented by
people from other parts of the country," a senior police
official said.
However, some hotel staff, cyber cafe owners and
telephone booth operators said police had specifically asked
for details of their customers during the first fortnight of
March.
A team of Special Cell had visited hotels De Holiday Inn
and Anand in Paharganj, where Headley stayed, three days ago
and had spoken to staff there. MORE PTI SJY
