Dravid played some typical flicks off the toes, besides
putting a big premium on his wicket to lift the stuttering
innings by its bootstraps while Yuvraj played with freedom and
good timing as the duo repaired the innings.
Yuvraj struck Prasad for two fours in one over to force
the bowler off the firing line after the first hour of play
that yielded 47 runs in 11 overs.
Prasad gave way to Angelo Mathews at the beginning of the
second hour's play but by then the wicket too had lost
whatever little venom it had and the fifth wicket duo slowly
settled down.
After raising the fifty in 65 minutes and 11.3 overs,
Yuvraj clipped Mathews off his pads, while Dravid flicked and
steered Welegedara for two fours in the latter's seventh over
that resulted in Muthiah Muralitharan being deployed by Lanka
skipper Kumar Sangakkara immediately afterwards.
By lunch Dravid and Yuvraj had put on a quick and
innings-steadying partnership with the former, who struck four
fours and a six, looking solid as ever and the latter looking
dangerous by striking the ball cleanly to hit seven fours.
Dravid struck Rangana Herath, the Lanka left arm spinner
preferred over his unorthodox spin mate Ajantha Mendis, for a
straight six as soon as the new bowler came in to bowl just
before the interval.
Yuvraj too took a liking for the youngster, playing for
the first time against India, and spanked him straight for a
four to raise the 100 of the innings just before lunch. PTI
