"Coordination was conducted with the Phillippine consulate general in Manado last November 1 regarding the fate of the eight immigrants," chief of Central Sulawesi's Immigration Detention House, Yusuf Saddu, said here on Monday.
Yusuf said his office was now waiting for the Phillippine side's realization of their commitment to help finance the repatriation of the eight immigrants now staying in Palu's Immigration Detention House, Central Sulawesi.
Soon after the confirmation, he added, all the eight Filipino immigrants would be sent to an Immigration Detention House in Manado and directly deported to their ountry.
Based on an investigation conducted by officers from the local police office and Palu's immigration detention house, the eight immigrants had drifted into Indonesian waters.
"They did not commit any violation of Indonesia's Immigration Law nor did they do any criminal act. Their boat just simply lost fuel during a journey," Yusuf said.
The Phillippine immigrants were found last Sunday (Nov 1) in Tolitoli district waters in pitiful conditions. Originally, there were 11 people on the boat but three had died and the remaining were found in extremely weak condition.
The eight survivors, consisting of five adult men and three children, were then brought to the nearest Community Health Center (Puskesmas) in Ogotua village before being moved to Tolitoli district's hospital.
Now the eight immigrants are in good health and ready to return to the Phillippine. ***
