Headley, Rana in Pakistan at the time of Mumbai attack: Probe
New Delhi/Mumbai, Nov 16 (PTI) American terror suspect
David Headley and his associate Tahawwur Hussain Rana --a
Pakistani-Canadian-- were in Pakistan during the Mumbai
carnage, a probe has found, raising more suspicion of their
link to the attack last November.
Investigators probing the Headley-Rana terror trail have
found that the two men were moving freely in Pakistan when
the Pak-based Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) terrorists struck at the
country's financial capital, a top Home Ministry of India
official said here Monday.
In another development, the official said India has
approached Canada to get more information abour Rana, a
Canadian citizen of Pakistani origin. Rana was also in Mumbai
till five days before the terror attack which left 183 persons
dead, according to investigators.
"We are liasoning with Canada government," he said,
adding Rana was the "money bag" of the two.
More than 20 teams from the National Investigation
Agency, a prosecuting agency established in the aftermath of
26/11, are probing the terror links of the two men and trying
to gather information about the places they had visited
between 2006 and 2009. The teams also have representatives of
central security agencies.
Apart from staying in five star hotels in places like
Mumbai, Kochi, Ahmedabad and Mumbai, Headley and Rana had also
stayed with some "private parties" who were being questioned
by security agencies.
In a related development, NIA, which has booked Headley
and Rana under Unlawful Activities Prevention Act for
conspiring to wage a war against country, has asked filmmaker
Mahesh Bhatt's son Rahul, who became an acquaintance of
Headley during his stay in Mumbai, not to leave the city. PTI
