Sensex extends gain for third day

Mumbai, Nov 17 (PTI) The Bombay Stock Exchange benchmark
Sensex Tuesday extended gains for the third straight session
by adding over 18 points as funds bought into select stocks.

The Sensex, which gained nearly 334 points in the last
two trading sessions, added 18.14 points to 17,050.65, after
moving in the range of 17,080.17 and 16,882.98 points.
The wide-based National Stock Exchange index Nifty rose
by 4.20 points to 5,062.25. It shuttled between 5,074.00 and
5,010.15 during the session.
The market dipped in early stages following reports
quoting Federal Reserve Chairman Ben S Bernanke as saying that
economic 'headwinds' probably will restrain the pace of the US
economic recovery.
The market rebounded as funds shuffled from already
mature stocks to emerging sectors like information technology,
tech and metals.
Major support to the market came in from Infosys
Technologies, HDFC Bank, Hero Honda, Larsen and Toubro, Tata
Consultancy and Wipro.
The IT sector stocks rose after a steep rise in software
company counters in the Nasdaq. More than 50 per cent of the
software business of Indian companies comes from the US
markets.
In the 30-BSE index, 15 stocks closed with gains while
other 15 ended with losses. PTI RS
